AI and Automation
Greg Mooney aims to leverage artificial intelligence and automation to strengthen UAW operations and member support. A key initiative is the development of the UAW AI, referred to as lUAWr (lawyer), designed to provide members with tailored answers regarding their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and company benefits. This AI will focus on labor relations, assist local unions in filing grievances by utilizing a predictive algorithm to assess the likelihood of success in arbitration cases. The algorithm will also identify grievances needing better documentation and anticipate counterarguments so that union officials are properly prepared.
Additionally, lUAWr will support contract negotiations by helping leadership make informed decisions and evaluate potential disadvantages of contract proposals. lUAWr will be able to calculate cost in real-time, better track where negotiators are at in the negotiation process, and to be able to fact check company lies and promises.
To facilitate this, he will facilitate the creation of a dedicated app. The app will integrate the lUAWr AI, replace LUIS, give members the ability to document workplace violations, and enable local unions to take notes, communicate privately, form communities, plan events, and audit financial records. It will also assist with voting and elections, and serve as our primary organizing tool by ensuring anonymity to prevent company interference.
Additionally, Greg Mooney is advocating that the following CBA guidelines are implemented into ALL future CBA contracts to protect UAW jobs.
Messaging
To strengthen the labor movement, Greg Mooney will prioritize a clear and focused message to the American public and decision makers, emphasizing the significance of labor issues. The union will concentrate on matters directly impacting the majority of its members, avoiding distractions from less relevant issues to build a strong foundation for future initiatives.
Greg Mooney wants to form partnerships with trade schools to offer internships and apprenticeship programs, providing opportunities to discuss the labor movement's importance and organizing strategies. Additionally, he is advocating to have the UAW collaborate with other unions to commission an independent study to understand Americans' concerns about unions, identify top labor issues, and gather data from policy makers to make informed decisions for future messaging / organizing / lobbying efforts.
Financial Responsibility
Upon assuming office, Greg Mooney will commission a Financial Health Committee (FHC), chaired by the Financial Secretary and composed of local Financial Secretary officers, to perform a thorough audit in collaboration with an independent auditor.
Within 90 days, the FHC will propose policy reforms to secure the UAW’s financial sustainability along with recommendations to have a balanced budget for the 2027 fiscal year. The FHC will prioritize bolstering the Strike Fund in anticipation of widespread strikes during upcoming contract talks driven by AI-related challenges, eliminating fraud and waste, and launching a UAW Health Care Plan for retirees.
UAW Healthcare
Greg Mooney will spearhead the UAW Cares initiative to develop a top-tier supplemental healthcare plan for retirees, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive plan to eventually cover all members and their families. This initiative will significantly lower costs, provide world-class healthcare to members in good standing, boost future organizing efforts, and tackle challenges in "Right to Work" states while saving retirees hundreds of dollars on monthly healthcare cost. By offering affordable, high-quality healthcare, the UAW will attract companies looking to reduce their costs and set the stage for the largest organizing effort in U.S. history.
Organizing
Greg Mooney will steer UAW organizing efforts to proactively engage communities with returning manufacturing jobs, integrate smaller unions, and launch online campaigns in regions with potential for unionized roles. The UAW App will serve as the primary recruitment tool, enabling anonymous inquiries, private organizing, and protection against company retaliation. The "UAW Cares" healthcare plan will be a major draw, providing top-tier healthcare access to all UAW members. The union will focus on technology and energy sectors, particularly energy production and construction, which are projected to drive U.S. job growth. By evaluating current strategies, investing in innovative approaches, and offering compelling incentives, Greg Mooney will launch the largest organizing effort in UAW history. The “UAW 35” Initiative aims to have 1% of the U.S. workforce as UAW members by 2035, celebrating the UAW’s 100th anniversary.
Core Issues
Greg Mooney will champion equal representation on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) by advocating for one union representative for every corporate representative. He will collaborate with other unions to strengthen this position and will actively lobby the current administration and Congress to enact these reforms. Additionally, Greg Mooney will push for minimum staffing levels of arbitrators at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) to prevent backlogs in current and future union cases.
He will advocate for maintaining strong worker safety protections. He will push for penalties tied to a sliding scale based on a company’s gross revenue, rather than flat rates, to better hold large corporations accountable without unduly burdening small businesses. Additionally, he will seek mandatory National Safety Council (NSC) training for front-line managers, along with paid NSC and regional training for appointed UAW Safety Representatives.
Greg Mooney firmly opposes "Right to Work" policies and laws, tirelessly educating the public on how these measures undermine earning potential. Through innovative initiatives like “UAW Cares,” he aims to counteract “Right to Work” legislation by rendering current and future efforts ineffective.
Drawing inspiration from the 1919 Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. case, Greg Mooney will urge the UAW to lobby for laws requiring publicly traded companies to prioritize all stakeholders and long-term investments over short-term profits, ensuring public responsibilities are met without shareholder backlash.
For current and future retirees receiving a pension from the BIG 3, I will fight to remove the Social Security Offset at the age of 62. That way you can get a boost to your pension immediately to help with rising cost.
UAW members deserve a dignified retirement, but traditional pensions are outdated and unsustainable. Created before modern tools like the 401(k) (1978) and Roth IRA (1997), pensions limit investment growth, burden companies with unpredictable costs, and divert resources from the current and future workforce.
With life expectancies rising to over 78 years of age compared to 68 years of age in the 1950s. The traditional pension model strains employers, as seen in crises like GM’s 2008 bankruptcy and can leave retirees at a disadvantage. A modern approach is needed to maximize worker security while ensuring business viability.
I propose a modern 7-7-7 pension model:
The company puts in 7% of your pay automatically, even if you contribute nothing.
If you add 7% yourself, the company matches it with another 7%.
You only contribute 7%, but 21% total goes into your retirement every year and it is for every hour that you work. Totaling 14% in contributions, well above the national average and this should be fully vested and free for one to invest as they see fit. Moreover, employers should also contribute the maximum amount allowed by law to each employee’s HSA to reduce current healthcare expenses and build funds for retirement medical costs.
For Tier 2 employees’ part of the BIG 3, I also will fight for a one-time deposit of $15,000 to jump start your 401k.
This approach empowers workers with greater control over their investments, allowing them to harness compound growth for larger retirement nest eggs. Additionally, the UAW should launch “UAW Cares,” a retiree supplemental health plan that leverages union bargaining power to deliver affordable, high-quality coverage. This model modernizes retirement security, giving workers more control while enabling both employers and employees to thrive.
